SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) | |
|
Background - SBEM is the default method for carrying out building energy modelling. It was developed by BRE for the Government.- It is now used for non-domestic buildings
Why do you need it? - It is required as part of the Building Regulations - Part L - It forms part of the BREEAM Assessment - It forms part of an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) required when a building is built, sold or rented out - Most Planning Authorities have a requirement for a percentage of a development's energy to come from renewable or low carbon energy sources for planning permission requiring a SBEM Assessment to show this - It helps to provide information on the energy performance of alternative design decisions - It is also a way of demonstrating the energy efficiency of a development for corporate or marketing purposes.
see Criteria of Legislation for further information Details updated: Jan 2009
