Background - SAP is the Government's Standard Assessment Procedure for Energy Rating of Dwellings- It provides the following energy performance indicators: - Energy consumption per unit floor area - Energy cost rating (the SAP rating) - Environmental Impact rating (based on CO2 emissions - the EI rating) - Dwelling CO2 Emission Rate (DER)
Why do you need it? - It is required as part of the Building Regulations - Part L - It forms part of the Code for Sustainable Homes - It forms part of an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), required when a building is built, sold or rented out - Most Planning Authorities have a requirement for a percentage of a development's energy to come from renewable or low carbon energy sources for planning permission requiring a SAP Assessment to show this - It helps to provide information on the energy performance of alternative design decisions - It is also a way of demonstrating the energy efficiency of a development for corporate or marketing purposes.
