Code for Sustainable Homes | |
|
Background - The Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) is a Government developed environmental assessment method for rating and certifying the performance of new homes.- There are 6 Code Levels above nil rating: - nil rating is equivalent to the Building Regulations performance - Code Level 6 is a zero-carbon dwelling
Why do you need it? - from 1st May 2008 all new homes must obtain a Code Certificate (which currently may be nil rated) - Some Planning Authorities will require a certain Code Level for planning permission - Affordable Housing's funding mechanism requires certain Code Levels (currently minimum Code Level 3) - It is also a way of demonstrating the sustainable principles of a development for corporate or marketing purposes.
see CSH Information and Criteria of Legislation for further information Details updated: Jan 2009
